Cold Pressing is a natural physical process used to extract vegetable oils from oilseeds such as Canola and Safflower and nut oils from the likes of almonds and walnuts. These oils are extracted from seed by a simple crushing and filtering process. There is no heat or chemical treatment so the oil is essentially unchanged.
This industry has arisen because of the desire of a growing number of people to buy the natural oil. Vegetable oil production is a huge industry in Australia but the usual method of production is to use a combination of heat and chemical solvents to extract and refine the oil. Some people believe that these processes destroy some of the essential ingredients of the natural oil such as Vitamin E, lecithin, beta carotene and the essential Omega 3 fatty acids which are used by the body for normal functioning.
